The Facilities Department is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and grounds for all schools, administration buildings and the transportation facility. Our dedicated staff strives to enhance the health and safety of our school community by
providing an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable learning environment to maintain a positive impact on education.

Our Custodial staff handle all aspects of daily cleaning and classroom preparedness. Each school has one daytime custodian to tend to all needs when school is in session. Additional "evening" custodial staff provide a more thorough cleaning of all classrooms, bathrooms, and common learning areas each day. The Saco School Department is committed to the use of “Green” cleaning products when appropriate for the health and safety of all. School leadership, in conjunction with Federal and State laws and recommendations, has developed standards of "best practice" used as a guideline in all cleaning aspects.

The Facilities Department employs two full-time maintenance personnel to handle all indoor and outdoor maintenance; preventive and routine. Tasks routinely include the following maintenance and logistics needs: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmiths, and energy management.

The City of Saco Public Works and Parks Departments are completely responsible for all lawn care, parking lots, and playgrounds used by the Saco Schools. They also plow and sand all school driveways and parking lots during the winter months. Custodial and Maintenance staff assist with the clearing/sanding of all stairs and sidewalks. In addition, the City Departments are also responsible for field preparation for all athletic events in the Fall and Spring.

It is the stated policy of the Saco School Department Board to support the utilization of the facilities to serve the Saco community when the facilities are not in use for school activities. It is intended that community uses for educational, recreational, social, civic, philanthropic and like purposes be approved by the administration, in accordance with this policy, the implementing regulations, and a fee schedule approved by this Board. It is the aim of the Saco School Department that the outside uses of school facilities not have a negative revenue impact on the Saco School Department budget.

Priority of use is established as follows:
1. School-sponsored functions;
2. City-sponsored activities.
3. Non-school student groups;
4. Youth Organizations/activities;
5. Civic oriented activities; and
6. General public events.

All requests for use of facilities shall be made in writing using the application form provided by the Saco School Department. Applications for use of school facilities must be submitted to the office of the building administrator at least 10 school days in advance. The Superintendent/designee will notify the applicant of their decision at least five days before the date of proposed use. When emergency circumstances warrant, the 10-day limit for submission may be waived.
