Dear SMS Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. We hope this letter finds you well and excited for the new academic year ahead. We have been busy this summer preparing the building for the upcoming school year. We are excited for students to return on Wednesday, August 27th. To ensure a smooth start to the school year, we would like to provide you with some essential information. Please take note of the following:

SMS Open House: Join us for our Open House before the start of the academic year on Tuesday, August 26th, from 4:30 - 6:30pm. This year’s event will feature a new format, including a presentation by administrators and dedicated time to meet your child’s teachers. 

It’s a great chance to connect with teachers, see the school updates, and learn more about our curriculum and expectations. 

6th grade Schedule 

• 4:30 PM - Presentation in the cafeteria

• 5:00 - 6:30 PM - Meet & Greet with staff in classrooms 

7th & 8th Grade Schedule 

• 4:30 - 5:30 - Meet & Greet with staff in classrooms 

• 5:30 - Presentation in cafeteria

Laptop computers: 

We’re happy to share that this year, laptop insurance will be fully covered by the school budget—no fees for families! All students will receive their laptops during the first week of school, so there’s no need to pick them up ahead of time.

Proof of Residency

Parents/Guardians will be expected to provide one item listed below to verify Saco residency as his/her student enters 3rd & 6th grade prior to the start of school.

• Current utility bill with parent/guardian name & address dated within the past 30 days (CMP, water, sewer, internet, homeowners insurance.) *Copies must be of the documents not of just the envelopes

• Payroll stub or W2 with home address

Documents can be dropped off at the SMS office or emailed to smsoffice@sacoschools.org 

We believe that strong communication between school and home is key to a successful educational journey. To that end, we will be using various channels to keep you informed about school updates, events, and important announcements. Please ensure that we have your updated contact information so that you don't miss out on any crucial information.
