Student Registration
Online Registration: Things to Know Before You Begin
We’re excited to welcome new and returning families to Saco Schools!
Whether your child is just beginning their educational journey or returning for another great year, the below information will guide you through everything you need to know to complete online registration smoothly and confidently.
PLEASE NOTE:
Proof of residency is required for all new registering students and for any returning students entering 3rd or 6th grades.
Maine law requires all students to be immunized before starting school. See Nurse/Health Information for exact details.
If you are a New Mainer or Homeless, please click here to learn more prior to registering.
Fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required, and registration isn't complete until all documents are submitted and reviewed by the school.
If you need help, don’t hesitate to call the Superintendent's Office at (207) 284-4505, contact your child's school directly, or check the PowerSchool FAQs below.
New Students
To register a child in Saco Schools, you must be the child’s legal parent or guardian and provide two forms of proof that you live in Saco (see Proof of Residency information below). If you live in another town or are not the legal guardian, please register in the town where the child resides. If you are a New Mainer or Homeless, please click here to learn more prior to registering.
Which K-2 School Will My Child Attend?
If your child is entering grades K–2, their assigned school (Fairfield School or Young School) depends on where you live in Saco. Please see the Saco School Zone Map for reference.
Pre-Kindergarten and (New) Kindergarten Registration:
Pre-K students must be 4 years old by October 15 and Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by October 15. Families should complete Pre-K registration by the last day of the current school year and will be notified of acceptance by July 1st. Our enrollment policy mirrors district-wide demographic percentages within the walls of Pre-K. For example, if the district-wide special education percentage is 15%, then we would reserve 15% of Pre-K seats for students with identified disabilities. If the district-wide economically disadvantaged rate is 50%, then we would reserve 50% of Pre-K seats for students who qualify. Once all seats are filled, students will be placed on a waitlist. Accepted documents to verify your child’s age include a birth certificate, passport, hospital or physician record, or an official school or court document.

Proof of Residency
To register your child, you’ll need to provide two forms of proof that you live in Saco. Per Policy JFAA, residency is defined as a bona fide residence—one that is maintained in good faith and serves as the actual home where the family eats, sleeps, and lives daily. Temporary arrangements or superficial residences established solely for free school attendance do not qualify. If false information is provided to establish Saco residency, enrollment will be terminated immediately, and the parent/guardian may be held financially responsible for tuition and associated costs.
Step 1: One of the following primary documents
Home purchase agreement or mortgage statement
Current signed lease agreement, Section 8 - Complete with address, lease date, with the signature of landlord & tenant. (Renting a room from a friend/family, subletting or Airbnb stays are against our residency policy)
If the above two cannot be provided the use of the Alternative Affidavit for Residency may be approved for use. Families who use an affidavit must still provide one of the secondary proof items in their name.
Step 2: One of the following secondary documents
Utility bill (electric, water/sewer, internet, homeowners/renters insurance) dated within the last 30 days and showing your name and Saco address.
Note: Envelopes are not accepted. Please submit the full document with name, date, and address visible. Amounts may be blacked out.
For returning students entering 3rd or 6th grade, one current proof of residency is required before school starts.
