The site for our two new schools: Saco Primary School (Pre-K/K) and Saco Elementary School (grades 1-5) continues to make progress. With 72% of the funding coming from the state, this is a tremendous step forward for our youth. This funding means modern, safe, and inspiring learning environments where our children can thrive and reach their full potential. Thank you for supporting the education of our youth. Together, we are investing in a brighter future for all our students!
Facilities
The Facilities Department is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and grounds of all schools, administration buildings, and transportation facilities. Our dedicated staff strives to enhance the health and safety of our school community by providing an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable learning environment to maintain a positive impact on education.
Custodial & Maintenance
Our Custodial staff handles all aspects of daily cleaning and classroom preparedness. The Saco School Department is committed to the use of “Green” cleaning products when appropriate for the health and safety of all. School leadership, in conjunction with Federal and State laws and recommendations, has developed standards of "best practice" used as a guideline in all cleaning aspects.
Our Maintenance staff handles all indoor and outdoor maintenance; preventive and routine. Tasks routinely include the following maintenance and logistics needs: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmiths, and energy management.
The City of Saco Public Works and Parks Departments are completely responsible for all lawn care, parking lots, and playgrounds used by the Saco Schools. They also plow and sand all school driveways and parking lots during the winter months. Custodial and Maintenance staff assist with the clearing/sanding of all stairs and sidewalks. In addition, the City Departments are also responsible for field preparation for all athletic events in the Fall and Spring.
Please contact the Director of Facilities, Don Roth, or Deputy Director of Facilities, Andrew Saksa, or Custodial Supervisor, Lodel Seneres, with any issues, concerns, or suggestions.

School Construction
Statewide Lead Water Testing
According to Maine Law LD 153, statewide testing for lead in all school water sources must occur by May 31, 2022, thanks to a federal grant. As with most schools in Maine constructed decades ago, pipes, solder, and brass fixtures can be a potential source of lead, so any water used for drinking or cooking purposes will be sampled. Maine's drinking water threshold is no more than four parts per billion (ppb), whereas the federal threshold is 15 ppb. Any fixtures exceeding the Maine threshold for lead must be reported to the public within five (5) days of the findings.
Any water sources above the threshold will immediately be removed from service, flushed for mitigation, and resampled to determine the source of the lead–fixtures versus pipes–to perform remediation.
