CK Burns School was filled with energy, laughter, and learning on Wednesday evening as hundreds of students and their families gathered for Saco Schools’ first-ever combined Math and Literacy Family Night, bringing together Pre-K through Grade 5 learners in a celebration of academic growth and community connection.
The event welcomed families across two sessions and marked a meaningful step toward building a unified elementary community as the district prepares for its future schools on one campus. Throughout the evening, students proudly showcased their math and literacy skills while engaging alongside their families in a variety of interactive learning activities. From “fishing for words” to Wordle-style challenges and hands-on math games, the event blended academic concepts with fun, creating memorable learning experiences for all ages.
Families had the opportunity to connect with teachers, explore strategies to support learning at home, and enjoy snacks, refreshments, and goodie bags. Every student who attended also received take-home materials, including access to free books, ensuring the excitement of the evening could continue beyond the classroom. The district extends its sincere thanks to its Math, Literacy, and Technology Coaches, whose thoughtful planning and coordination made the wide range of engaging activities possible.
“This event truly captured the spirit of what we hope to build across our schools—strong connections between students, families, and educators centered around learning,” said Assistant Superintendent Meg Parkhurst. “Seeing so many families engaged, laughing, and learning together was incredibly powerful. It’s a reminder that when we bring our community together, our students thrive.”
With an overwhelming turnout and enthusiastic participation, the PreK-5 Math and Literacy Family Night marked a successful and inspiring start to what Saco Schools hopes will become a cherished annual tradition.
